Kids Band...
About the Band...
When Carl became president of hosting the Convention he wanted to make it a place where young people would be encouraged to learn, enjoy and carry on the old time fiddle music of the past. He has played a key role in making the kids band possible each year and he, along with Michelle Burleson (band coordinater) are so happy it has continued as long as it has!
The idea for the band actually came from Michelle and her husband Johnny in 2003, when their own four children were young, and just learning to play. They thought it would be a good way to get kids more involved, give them a little on stage experience, and teach them how to play well with others, while giving them the opportunity to meet and perform with musicians their own age.
We are not sure if we will be doing a the on stage performance this year (2024) but when we do this Kids band, it is open to all...Any child 19 and under attending the convention is welcome to participate. It doesn't matter if they are beginners, intermediate or more advanced players, and each child who participates is given the opportunity to be front and center stage during at least one song of the performance.
Over the years many have participated...one year 34 kids made up the band, and the little theater stage would have been hard pressed to fit even one more child on it. Other years only a few kids played in the band. But no matter the number the results where the same....learning, fun, and an unforgettable experience!
This year, whether or not there is an on stage performance. Michelle along with other volunteers in room M138 will be helping encourage all young musicans, and any child who plays an instrument or is interested in doing so, is invited to join us in the KIDS room at the 2024 Fiddlers Convention!
if you have questions or need more info you can call Michelle at 870-414-1485, email [email protected]
or join us in the kids room during the convention (room #M138)
we may not be in the room on Thursday until around 4pm
